Fireproof

My wife and I went to see a movie last night. We love going to the movies, but because of the high prices lately, we’ve been holding off a bit. Last night though, we decided to go see a movie that’s been getting quite a bit of talk lately. I can definitely say that I’ve never seen anything like this in a movie theater before.

Fireproof is the name of the movie. It came out this past weekend on September 26. It’s a movie about a dying marriage. Both parties can easily be blamed for the split, but it takes two to tango. The movie took a different approach to this situation than all the others have. Movies about two people splitting and then rejoining due to certain events or transactions are a dime a dozen. These movies come and go because they all have the two parties looking into themselves for help or possibly family members or friends. But in this movie the main character, Caleb Holt (the Husband), doesn’t ultimately receive help from himself, friends, or particularly family, but from God. Yeah, this sounds taboo to be seen in a public movie theatre. But finally there are movies being produced from a Christian perspective that are done so well that they demand attention even from secular venues.

I am happy to say that after about a year and half of marriage I have no complaints; and yes I do realize that we are still young in this marriage. But what I want to say is that this movie is made for the struggling marriage, but helps so much for even the good ones. I encourage all who have a marriage that is struggling or even broken, if you have any desire to fix it, please look into seeing this movie. It’s a life changer.

Beyond the wonderful storyline, the acting wasn’t bad. As you would know, not many of Hollywood’s famous are willing to accept roles in such a film, but there is Kurt Cameron, who does an amazing job. There is also the amazing action, firefighting scenes, which were awesome. If you can look past some of the inexperience of a few of the actors you’ll leave with a bigger desire for a good (and Godly) marriage.
